What This Study Did, in Plain Language
What Was Tested
In this early phase 1 trial, researchers set out to test Peptide YY.
Peptide YY (PYY) is a gastrointestinal hormone released from the enteroendocrine cell upon food intake.
The N-terminal truncated form, PYY3-36, exerts anorexic effects.
In this study the researchers want to investigate the kinetics of PYY1-36 and PYY3-36 and to examine whether a C-terminally degraded metabolite, PYY3-34, is formed after infusion of PYY.
It had 1 arm (groups): PYY infusion (experimental).
IV infusion on 4 separate days of PYY or saline in Healthy, normal-weight men, age 18-50 years.
The registry classes the interventions as biological.
Who Took Part
The registry lists 8 actual participants took part.
It was open to men only aged from 18 years up to 50 years.
Healthy volunteers could join, not only people with the condition.
Examples of who could join: Normal BMI (18.5-25kg/m2).
The full record lists 2 inclusion and 9 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: diabetes mellitus; gastric bypass; height changes \>3 kg within last two months.
How the Study Was Run
The set-up was single-group and single-blind.
In this single-blind Peptide YY study one party knew the assignments and the other did not.
Everyone received the same intervention, so there was no separate comparison group inside the trial.
Those kept unaware of assignments: participant.
It started in 2014-05 with completion listed for 2015-07.
It ran at 1 site in Denmark.
Its stated primary purpose is basic science.
What Was Measured
Researchers chose this as the main measure: PYY3-34 concentration (time frame: 0-240 min). Half-lives of PYY1-36 and PYY3-36 (time frame: 0-240 min).
What This Means in Plain Language
Put simply, this is a early phase 1 trial of Peptide YY in 8 people.
Its size is small, so on its own it can only give an early look.
The trial is marked completed; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound
Peptide YY: A 36-amino-acid gut hormone released after eating that is studied for its role in appetite.
