What This Study Did, in Plain Language

What Was Tested

In this not phased trial, researchers set out to test hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin).

The delay will be for up to an interval of 47 hours from hCG to OPU.

It had 1 arm (groups): Delay (experimental).

Delaying oocyte pick up beyond 39 hours post hCG.

The registry classes the interventions as other.

More on the Plan

In IVF one encounters some women in whom a low percentage of oocytes are found in the metaphase II stage upon their retrieval.

Following some incidents, in their experience as well as others', where women injected hCG too early but oocytes were still retrieved with high proportion of maturity, the researchers decided to delay OPU intentionally in women who had low percentage oocyte maturity in previous cycles.

Who Took Part

Enrollment: 20 planned participants were the target.

It was open to women only aged from 20 years up to 38 years.

Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.

How the Study Was Run

Design: single-group and open-label.

Nothing was hidden in this open-label hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) study: the participants and staff both knew the treatment.

Everyone received the same intervention, so there was no separate comparison group inside the trial.

It started in 2017-01 with completion listed for 2018-12.

Its stated primary purpose is treatment.

What Was Measured

The main thing measured (primary outcome): Conception (time frame: Two years).

What This Means in Plain Language

Put simply, this is a not phased trial of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in 20 people.

Its size is small, so on its own it can only give an early look.

Its status is unknown; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound

hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin): An LH analog that drives Leydig-cell testosterone production.
