What This Study Did, in Plain Language
What Was Tested
This registered phase 1 trial tested Insulin Lispro.
This study will be conducted in participants with type 1 diabetes mellitus to investigate how the human body processes LY900014, a new blood sugar lowering insulin, and its effect on blood sugar levels when it is delivered via an insulin pump.
Side effects and tolerability will be documented.
The study will last about 4 to 11 weeks for each participant.
It had two arms (groups): LY900014 (experimental) and Insulin Lispro (Humalog) (active comparator).
The registry classes the interventions as drug.
Who Took Part
24 actual participants took part.
It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years up to 70 years.
Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.
Examples of who could join: Male or female participants with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) who are receiving insulin therapy via an approved insulin pump. Have a screening body mass index (BMI) of greater than 18.5 to 33.0 kilograms per meter squared (kg/m²), inclusive. Have medical and laboratory test results that are acceptable for the study. Have had no episodes of severe hypoglycemia (requiring assistance in treatment by a second party) in the past 6 months. Have venous access sufficient to allow for blood sampling.
How the Study Was Run
The set-up was randomized, crossover and double-blind.
Random assignment meant chance, not the researchers, decided who got Insulin Lispro and who got the comparison, which limits bias.
In the crossover set-up each of the participants took both Insulin Lispro and the comparison in turn, acting as their own control.
As a double-blind Insulin Lispro study, the assignments were hidden from both participants and investigators until the end.
Those kept unaware of assignments: participant and investigator.
It started in 2017-02-23 with completion listed for 2017-06-19.
It ran at 2 sites in Germany (2).
Its stated primary purpose is basic science.
What This Means in Plain Language
Put simply, this is a phase 1, randomized trial of Insulin Lispro in 24 people.
Its size is small, so on its own it can only give an early look.
The trial is marked completed; results are posted on the registry, and this page does not restate them.
