What This Study Did, in Plain Language
What Was Tested
The trial (phase 3) is built around Insulin Glargine and Insulin Lispro.
The purpose of this study is to compare long-acting basal insulin analog LY2963016 to Lantus® in combination with mealtime insulin lispro in adult Chinese participants with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM).
It had two arms (groups): LY2963016 + Insulin Lispro (experimental) and Lantus® + Insulin Lispro (active comparator).
The registry classes the interventions as drug.
Who Took Part
The registry lists 272 actual participants took part.
It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years with no upper age limit.
Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.
Examples of who could join: Have T1DM based on the disease diagnostic criteria (World Health Organization \[WHO\] Classification). Have duration of T1DM ≥1 year. Have been administered with basal-bolus insulins or pre-mixed insulins for at least 90 days prior to screening. Have a body mass index (BMI) ≤35 kilograms per meter squared.
The full record lists 5 inclusion and 14 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: exposure to an insulin glargine other than lantus® within previous 30 days; have had more than one episode of severe hypoglycemia within 6 months prior to entry into the study; have known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the study insulins (lantus® or insulin lispro) or to excipients of the study insulins.
How the Study Was Run
The set-up was randomized, parallel-group and open-label.
The participants were allocated by chance, so the Insulin Glargine group and the comparison group should start out alike.
The Insulin Glargine group and the comparison group ran side by side rather than switching.
Everyone knew when Insulin Glargine was being given (open label), which is simpler to run but leaves more room for expectations to affect what is reported.
It started in 2018-03-23 with completion listed for 2020-03-05.
It ran at 20 sites in China (20).
Its stated primary purpose is treatment.
What Was Measured
It also tracked 12 secondary outcomes, for example Change From Baseline in 7-Point Self-Monitored Blood Glucose (SMBG) Values, Change From Baseline in Intrapatient Blood Glucose (BG) Variability, Measured by the Standard Deviation of 7-point SMBG, Change From Baseline in Glycemic Variability of Fasting Blood Glucose, Change From Baseline in Body Weight, Change From Baseline in Insulin Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire (ITSQ) and Number of Participants With Detectable Anti-Glargine Antibodies.
What This Means in Plain Language
Put simply, this is a phase 3, randomized trial of Insulin Glargine and Insulin Lispro in 272 people.
The trial is marked completed; results are posted on the registry, and this page does not restate them.
More context: the Insulin Glargine compound page and the Insulin Lispro compound page, all human trials.
Our Notes on the Compounds
Insulin Glargine: A long-acting insulin analog given once daily; brands include Lantus, Toujeo, Basaglar and Semglee.
Insulin Lispro: A rapid-acting mealtime insulin analog; brands include Humalog, Admelog and Lyumjev.
