What This Study Did, in Plain Language
What Was Tested
In this phase 3 trial, researchers set out to test Semaglutide for fat loss, obesity & body recomposition.
The purpose of this study to understand better how this anti-obesity medication works to assist individuals to lose weight and maintain weight loss.
This study may lead to the development of other related medications for assisting people with the disease of obesity.
It had two arms (groups): Intervention Group (active comparator) and Control Group (placebo comparator).
Will receive placebo, subcutaneously, once weekly, self-injection throughout study duration.
The registry classes the interventions as drug.
Who Took Part
119 actual participants took part.
It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years up to 75 years.
Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.
Examples of who could join: Self-identify as being of Hispanic/Latino ethnicity. Age 18-75 years old. Able to provide informed consent before any trial related activities.
The full record lists 4 inclusion and 12 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: current cancer treatment; diabetes, type 1 or type 2; eating disorders.
How the Study Was Run
Design: randomized, parallel-group and triple-blind.
Because people in this Semaglutide study were split into groups at random, differences between the groups are less likely to reflect who happened to join each one.
Groups ran in parallel: each of the fat loss, obesity & body recomposition participants stayed in one arm throughout.
Blinding on both sides kept the fat loss, obesity & body recomposition participants and researchers unaware of who received Semaglutide.
Those kept unaware of assignments: participant, care provider and investigator.
It started in 2022-12-13 with completion listed for 2024-05-29.
It ran at 1 site in United States.
Its stated primary purpose is treatment.
What Was Measured
The main thing measured (primary outcome): Assessment of weight loss (time frame: Change between baseline and final study visit, seven months post baseline).
It also tracked 1 secondary outcome, for example Food Addiction Assessment.
What This Means in Plain Language
Put simply, this is a phase 3, randomized trial of Semaglutide in 119 people with fat loss, obesity & body recomposition.
The trial is marked completed; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound
Semaglutide: The active ingredient in several prescription GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines (Ozempic, Wegovy, oral tablets).
