What This Study Did, in Plain Language
What Was Tested
In this not phased trial, researchers set out to test Oxytocin.
Methods: The study was conducted in a single-blind randomized controlled type and 126 mothers who delivered by cesarean section in the postpartum department of a private hospital in Istanbul/Turkey were randomized into three groups as 42 breast massage, 42 oxytocin massage and 42 control group.
It had three arms (groups): Oxytocin massage (experimental), Breast massage (experimental) and Control (no intervention).
No intervention.
The registry classes the interventions as behavioral.
More on the Plan
Mothers who had a cesarean delivery and were in the first 24 hours after birth were divided into three separate groups: breast massage, oxytocin massage and control group.
Oxytocin massage group: The mother was positioned on a chair with her breasts bare and free, placing her arms on the table at her height and her head on her arms.
The researcher who applied the massage applied the massage up and down to either side of the spine between the mother's scapula bones with her thumbs in front and pressing her fists tightly and making small circular movements with her thumbs for three minutes.
The mothers received four oxytocin massages over the course of 24 hours.
Who Took Part
Enrollment: 42 actual participants took part.
It was open to women only aged from 18 years up to 35 years.
Healthy volunteers could join, not only people with the condition.
The full record lists 1 inclusion and 1 exclusion criteria.
How the Study Was Run
Design: randomized, parallel-group and double-blind.
Because people in this Oxytocin study were split into groups at random, differences between the groups are less likely to reflect who happened to join each one.
Groups ran in parallel: each of the participants stayed in one arm throughout.
Blinding on both sides kept the participants and researchers unaware of who received Oxytocin.
Those kept unaware of assignments: investigator and outcomes assessor.
It started in 2023-02-20 with completion listed for 2023-08-20.
It ran at 1 site in Turkey (Türkiye).
Its stated primary purpose is supportive care.
What Was Measured
The main thing measured (primary outcome): Breastfeeding success (time frame: Three times= immediately after birth, the first 24 hours after birth, and the 7th day after birth). Newborn Anthropometric Characteristics (time frame: Three times= immediately after birth, the first 24 hours after birth, and the 7th day after birth).
What This Means in Plain Language
Put simply, this is a not phased, randomized trial of Oxytocin in 42 people.
The trial is marked completed; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound
Oxytocin: A peptide hormone with established obstetric medical uses and a less settled role in research on behavior, sexual function and appetite.
