What This Study Did, in Plain Language
What Was Tested
This registered not phased trial tested Methylene blue (non-peptide stack partner) for gum disease (periodontal) & oral health.
The aim of this clinical trial is to evaluate photodynamic therapy and photobiomodulation in the periodontitis treatment.
It had four arms (groups): one (experimental), Photobiomodulation with a red laser (PBM-RL) (experimental), Photobiomodulation with an infrared laser (PBM-IRL) (experimental) and Saline solution - Control (C) (placebo comparator).
The registry classes the interventions as procedure.
More on the Plan
Periodontal disease has a high prevalence and is one of the main causes of edentulism, with a great negative impact on chewing function, aesthetics and quality of life related to oral health.
It is, therefore, considered a serious public health problem.
Photobiomodulation and photodynamic therapy have been widely applied in the treatment of periodontal disease, due to their clinical, cellular and bactericidal effects.
All tooth pocket sites in all groups will receive treatment.
Who Took Part
20 actual participants took part.
It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years up to 70 years.
Healthy volunteers could join, not only people with the condition.
Examples of who could join: Adult participants with periodontal disease;. Four or more periodontal sites with PPD≥6 mm and CAL≥5 mm, non-adjacent;. Stages III and IV of periodontal disease (Caton et al., 2018);.
The full record lists 4 inclusion and 9 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: received periodontal treatment in the last six months;; drugs (alcoholics, use of anti-inflammatories and antibiotics in the last 3 months);; pregnant and breastfeeding women;.
How the Study Was Run
Design: randomized, sequential and triple-blind.
The gum disease (periodontal) & oral health participants were allocated by chance, so the Methylene blue (non-peptide stack partner) group and the comparison group should start out alike.
As a double-blind Methylene blue (non-peptide stack partner) study, the assignments were hidden from both participants and investigators until the end.
Those kept unaware of assignments: participant, investigator and outcomes assessor.
It started in 2024-05-06 with completion listed for 2026-01-26.
It ran at 1 site in Brazil.
Its stated primary purpose is treatment.
What Was Measured
Primary outcome: Plaque index (PI) (time frame: Baseline and 3 months). Bleeding on probing (BOP) (time frame: Baseline and 3 months). Pocket probing depth (PPD) (time frame: Baseline and 3 months).
It also tracked 1 secondary outcome, for example Microbiogical analysis.
What This Means in Plain Language
Put simply, this is a not phased, randomized trial of Methylene blue (non-peptide stack partner) in 20 people with gum disease (periodontal) & oral health.
Its size is small, so on its own it can only give an early look.
The trial is marked completed; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.
