What This Study Did, in Plain Language

What Was Tested

The trial (phase 2) is built around L-Carnitine.

It had two arms (groups): Control group (experimental) and Test group (experimental).

38 STEMI patients undergoing PCI who will receive the standard of care for 4 weeks and will include the required antiplatelet (Dual Antiplatelet Therapy; DAPT), anticoagulants and anti-ischemic measures (high intensity statin, ACEI or aldosterone) as per latest guidelines recommendations.

The registry classes the interventions as drug.

More on the Plan

This study aims to investigate the effects of L-Carnitine on biomarkers of myocardial reperfusion injury in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary PCI by the assessment of the following: 1.

Measurement of nitrotyrosine as an oxidative stress marker and Matrix metallopeptidase-2 (MMP-2) as a cardiac fibrosis marker. 2.

Assessment of The TIMI (thrombolysis in myocardial infarction) grade and Myocardial Blush Grade (MBG). 3.

Who Took Part

76 planned participants were the target.

It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years up to 75 years.

Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.

Examples of who could join: Female or male aged \>18 and \< 75 years. STEMI patients undergoing PCI.

The full record lists 2 inclusion and 10 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: patients with a recent history of myocardial infarction (mi), a previous pci, a previous coronary artery bypass graft, or any cardiac surgery; pretreatment with thrombolytic or glycoprotein iib/iiia inhibitor therapy before primary pci,; concurrent infectious or active inflammatory disease,.

How the Study Was Run

It was run as a randomized, parallel-group and open-label study.

Because people in this L-Carnitine study were split into groups at random, differences between the groups are less likely to reflect who happened to join each one.

The L-Carnitine group and the comparison group ran side by side rather than switching.

Nothing was hidden in this open-label L-Carnitine study: the participants and staff both knew the treatment.

It started in 2025-06-01 with completion listed for 2026-12.

It ran at 1 site in Egypt.

Its stated primary purpose is treatment.

What Was Measured

Researchers chose this as the main measure: Evaluation of the marker nitrotyrosine (time frame: 24 hours post PCI). Evaluation of the marker (MMP-2) (time frame: 24 hours post PCI).

It also tracked 5 secondary outcomes, for example Assessment of Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) flow, Assessment of Myocardial Blush Grade, Incidence of ST-segment resolution >70 by ECG, Echocardiography and Occurrence of Major Adverse Cardiac Events (MACE).

What This Means in Plain Language

Put simply, this is a phase 2, randomized trial of L-Carnitine in 76 people.

Its status is active not recruiting; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound
