What This Study Did, in Plain Language

What Was Tested

This registered phase 3 trial tested Semaglutide for fat loss, obesity & body recomposition.

The purpose of the study is to compare the effect on body weight in subjects taking semaglutide injection or subjects taking Wegovy®.

It had two arms (groups): Semaglutide injection (experimental) and Wegovy® (active comparator).

The registry classes the interventions as drug.

More on the Plan

Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either semaglutide injection or Wegovy®.

The study medication will be administered via a weekly subcutaneous injection using a fine needle in the abdominal skinfold.

The duration of the study will be approximately 2 years, during which participants will attend 13 clinic visits with the study physician.

Who Took Part

Enrollment: 370 planned participants were the target.

It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years up to 75 years.

Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.

Examples of who could join: Voluntarily participate in this trial and sign the informed consent form. Male or female, aged 18-75 years (inclusive) at the time of signing the informed consent form. Body mass index (BMI) ≥28.0 kg/m2 at screening. (4)At least one self-reported unsuccessful weight loss history.

The full record lists 3 inclusion and 8 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: blood glucose-related:; history of type 1 or type 2 diabetes; received hypoglycemic drug treatment within 90 days prior to screening.

How the Study Was Run

Design: randomized, parallel-group and open-label.

Because people in this Semaglutide study were split into groups at random, differences between the groups are less likely to reflect who happened to join each one.

Groups ran in parallel: each of the fat loss, obesity & body recomposition participants stayed in one arm throughout.

Being open-label, the Semaglutide study did not mask who received what.

It started in 2024-10-30 with completion listed for 2026-05-30.

It ran at 14 sites in China (14).

Its stated primary purpose is treatment.

What Was Measured

Primary outcome: Change in body weight (time frame: From baseline at week 0 to week 44).

It also tracked 8 secondary outcomes, for example Change in body weight, Change in body mass index (BMI), Change in waist circumference, Change in systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure and Change in lipids.

What This Means in Plain Language

Put simply, this is a phase 3, randomized trial of Semaglutide in 370 people with fat loss, obesity & body recomposition.

Its status is not yet recruiting; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound

Semaglutide: The active ingredient in several prescription GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines (Ozempic, Wegovy, oral tablets).
