What This Study Did, in Plain Language

What Was Tested

In this phase 2 trial, researchers set out to test Insulin (regular human) for acne.

Post acne scars are formed as a result of very inflamed and nodulocystic acne.

Most common type of acne scars are atrophic scars and they are further classified on the basis of depth and size of destruction into ice pick, boxcar and rolling scars.

It had two arms (groups): Micro-needling with topical human actrapid insulin group (Group A) (active comparator) and Micro-needling with topical Platelet rich plasma(Group B) (active comparator).

The registry classes the interventions as procedure.

More on the Plan

Acne vulgaris is a disease involving inflammation or blockage of pilosebaceous units.

No local study was found in literature research.

OBJECTIVE: "To compare the outcome of microneedling with autologous platelet rich plasma verses microneedling with topical insulin in the treatment of post-acne atrophic scars".

Approval of the study has been taken from ethical review committee of the hospital.Data will be collected on prescribed form.

Who Took Part

Enrollment: 60 planned participants were the target.

It was open to people of any sex aged from 13 years up to 50 years.

Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.

Examples of who could join: Age: 13-50 years. Gender: both male and female. Type of acne scar: Atrophic acne scar. Patients not taking prior treatment in last 1-2 months.

The full record lists 4 inclusion and 7 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: pregnancy and lactating females; bleeding disorders; platelet count less than 100000.

How the Study Was Run

Design: randomized, parallel-group and open-label.

Because people in this Insulin (regular human) study were split into groups at random, differences between the groups are less likely to reflect who happened to join each one.

The Insulin (regular human) group and the comparison group ran side by side rather than switching.

Being open-label, the Insulin (regular human) study did not mask who received what.

It started in 2025-01 with completion listed for 2025-04.

It ran at 1 site in Pakistan.

Its stated primary purpose is treatment.

What Was Measured

The main thing measured (primary outcome): To compare the outcome of microneedling with autologous platelet rich plasma verses microneedling with topical insulin in the treatment of post-acne atrophic scars.

What This Means in Plain Language

Put simply, this is a phase 2, randomized trial of Insulin (regular human) in 60 people with acne.

Its status is not yet recruiting; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound

Insulin (regular human): The 51-amino-acid pancreatic hormone that lowers blood glucose; this page covers regular (short-acting) insulin studied in human trials.
