What This Study Did, in Plain Language

What Was Tested

In this not phased trial, researchers set out to test Glucagon.

This study will investigating the effects of glucagon on renal blood flow in humans using MRI technology.

Glucagon, a hormone produced by the pancreas, plays a key role in regulating blood sugar levels.

It had three arms (groups): Glucagon (experimental), Glucagon+Exendin9-39 (experimental) and Sodium chloride (Placebo comparator) (placebo comparator).

The registry classes the interventions as drug.

Who Took Part

The registry lists 10 planned participants were the target.

It was open to men only aged from 20 years up to 60 years.

Healthy volunteers could join, not only people with the condition.

Examples of who could join: Normal health confirmed through; Interview and Medical examination. Normal values with respect to blood concentrations of fasting plasma glucose, fasting plasma total cholesterol, fasting triglycerides, HDL, LDL, creatinine, liver function tests, and electrolytes.

The full record lists 3 inclusion and 10 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: immunosuppressive treatment in the previous 12 months; alcohol abuse; use of lithium.

How the Study Was Run

The set-up was randomized, crossover and triple-blind.

Random assignment meant chance, not the researchers, decided who got Glucagon and who got the comparison, which limits bias.

Each person switched between Glucagon and the comparison at some point, usually with a gap in between.

Neither the participants nor the staff measuring them knew who was on Glucagon, so expectations could not easily colour the readings.

Those kept unaware of assignments: participant, care provider and outcomes assessor.

It started in 2026-06-01 with completion listed for 2027-11-01.

Its stated primary purpose is basic science.

What Was Measured

Primary outcome: Blood perfusion of the kidney (time frame: 7 measurements of 10 minutes each from the start of infusion (time 0) and up to one hour (time 60)).

It also tracked 2 secondary outcomes, for example Blood flow of the renal arteries and blood oxygen saturation of the kidneys.

What This Means in Plain Language

Put simply, this is a not phased, randomized trial of Glucagon in 10 people.

Its size is small, so on its own it can only give an early look.

Its status is not yet recruiting; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound

Glucagon: A 29-amino-acid pancreatic hormone that raises blood glucose; used as a rescue medicine for severe low blood sugar and as a diagnostic aid.
