What This Study Did, in Plain Language

What Was Tested

In this not phased trial, researchers set out to test NAD+.

This proof-of-concept study aims to investigate the potential impact of supplementing with Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN), a direct precursor of NAD+ on CD4+ T cell recovery in virologically suppressed HIV patients experiencing immunological failure on ART.

A small cohort of patients will be recruited to evaluate the primary outcome of change in CD4+ T cell count from baseline to the end of the study period after receiving NMN daily for 12 weeks.

It had 1 arm (groups): one (experimental).

The registry classes the interventions as dietary supplement.

Who Took Part

Enrollment: 7 planned participants were the target.

It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years with no upper age limit.

Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.

Examples of who could join: HIV-infected adults aged 18 years or older. Virologically suppressed on ART documented with two negative viral loads separated by at least 6 months. Willing to provide informed consent.

The full record lists 4 inclusion and 9 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: active opportunistic infections; known allergies or sensitivities to nmn or any components of the nmn supplement; current or recent use of other supplements or medications known to affect nad+ metabolism (niacin, nr, nmnh, etc.).

How the Study Was Run

The set-up was single-group and open-label.

Nothing was hidden in this open-label NAD+ study: the participants and staff both knew the treatment.

Everyone received the same intervention, so there was no separate comparison group inside the trial.

It started in 2025-04 with completion listed for 2025-07.

Its stated primary purpose is treatment.

What Was Measured

Primary outcome: Primary Outcome (time frame: 12 weeks).

It also tracked 7 secondary outcomes, for example CD38, HLA-DR expression, TNF-alpha, NAD(+) levels, IL-6 and HS-CRP.

What This Means in Plain Language

Put simply, this is a not phased trial of NAD+ in 7 people.

Its size is small, so on its own it can only give an early look.

Its status is not yet recruiting; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.
