What This Study Did, in Plain Language

What Was Tested

In this phase 4 trial, researchers set out to test Vasopressin.

This randomized study looks at whether using a medicine injected into the cervix of the uterus (intracervical), called vasopressin, helps to achieve better removal of retained products of conception (RPOC).

RPOC means that after a pregnancy has ended (through miscarriage, abortion, or delivery), some parts of the pregnancy tissue, usually from the placenta or fetus, have stayed in the uterus.

A hysteroscopic removal of RPOC is one type of treatment.

It had two arms (groups): Treatment (active comparator) and Placebo (placebo comparator).

The registry classes the interventions as drug.

More on the Plan

This double-blinded randomized control trial is designed to evaluate if intraoperative injection of intracervical vasopressin into the cervix will allow for completion of hysteroscopic removal of retained products of conception.

This will be measured by surgical completion comparing patients who received intracervical vasopressin and those receiving placebo.

Surgical completion is defined by completing the procedure without having to convert to suction of tissue due to bleeding or poor visualization.

Secondary outcome measures include intraoperative bleeding, operative time, fluid deficit, and deficit volume.

Who Took Part

50 planned participants were the target.

It was open to women only aged from 18 years up to 51 years.

Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.

Examples of who could join: Undergoing surgical management for retained products of conception, postpartum retained products of conception or 1st trimester missed or incomplete abortion.

The full record lists 3 inclusion and 5 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: hemodynamic instability; active hemorrhage- soaking pad/hour; allergy to vasopressin.

How the Study Was Run

Design: randomized, parallel-group and open-label.

Random assignment meant chance, not the researchers, decided who got Vasopressin and who got the comparison, which limits bias.

Groups ran in parallel: each of the participants stayed in one arm throughout.

Nothing was hidden in this open-label Vasopressin study: the participants and staff both knew the treatment.

It started in 2025-10-30 with completion listed for 2026-12-01.

It ran at 1 site in United States.

Its stated primary purpose is treatment.

What Was Measured

Primary outcome: Completion of procedure hysteroscopically (time frame: from start of procedure to end of procedure).

It also tracked 3 secondary outcomes, for example Intraoperative Bleeding, Operative time and fluid deficit volume.

What This Means in Plain Language

Put simply, this is a phase 4, randomized trial of Vasopressin in 50 people.

It is still recruiting; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound

Vasopressin: A 9-amino-acid hormone (antidiuretic hormone) that controls water balance and blood vessel tone; used in septic shock.
