What This Study Did, in Plain Language

What Was Tested

The trial (phase 2) is built around Semaglutide.

In Denmark 90,000 live with dementia and life expectancy after dementia diagnosis is 5 to 8 years.

It had three arms (groups): Intervention - semaglutide only (experimental), Control (placebo comparator) and Intervention - combination (experimental).

A control group treated with placebo and no further intervention.

The registry classes the interventions as drug and other.

Who Took Part

180 planned participants were the target.

It was open to people of any sex.

Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.

Examples of who could join: MRI scan of the brain with coronal sections showing substance loss (atrophy) of the medial part of the temporal lobe compatible with Alzheimer's disease.

How the Study Was Run

The set-up was randomized, parallel-group and quadruple-blind.

Because people in this Semaglutide study were split into groups at random, differences between the groups are less likely to reflect who happened to join each one.

The Semaglutide group and the comparison group ran side by side rather than switching.

Neither the participants nor the staff measuring them knew who was on Semaglutide, so expectations could not easily colour the readings.

Those kept unaware of assignments: participant, care provider, investigator and outcomes assessor.

It started in 2026-01-01 with completion listed for 2030-09-30.

Its stated primary purpose is treatment.

What Was Measured

Primary outcome: The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (time frame: At inclusion, and 52 and 78 weeks).

It also tracked 12 secondary outcomes, for example Measurement of β-Amyloid1-42, Measurement of Tau, MRI scan of the brain, PET scan of the brain, Clinical Dementia Rating scale - Sum of Boxes and Symbol Digit Modalities Test.

What This Means in Plain Language

Put simply, this is a phase 2, randomized trial of Semaglutide in 180 people.

Its status is not yet recruiting; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound

Semaglutide: The active ingredient in several prescription GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines (Ozempic, Wegovy, oral tablets).
