What This Study Did, in Plain Language
What Was Tested
This registered phase 3 trial tested Semaglutide.
Among these, the role of epicardial fat volume in the presence of atheromatous plaques in patients with coronary artery disease has been emphasized, along with the link between its volume and the risk of ischemic cardiovascular events.
It had two arms (groups): Dapagliflozin (experimental) and Semaglutide (active comparator).
The registry classes the interventions as drug.
More on the Plan
This randomized, open-label clinical trial will assess the effects of dapagliflozin compared to semaglutide on epicardial fat in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction over a 12-month period.
Epicardial fat will be measured by simple coronary tomography during initial hospitalization for infarction and after 12 months of treatment with both medications.
It will include patients over 18 years old with STEMI and NSTEMI, with or without a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and clinical obesity.
Patients will be discharged following treatment guidelines, and their adherence to medication and tolerability will be monitored.
Who Took Part
136 planned participants were the target.
It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years with no upper age limit.
Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.
Examples of who could join: Criteria for the fourth definition of acute myocardial infarction with and without ST-segment elevation. Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
The full record lists 5 inclusion and 10 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: patients who have recently received immunosuppressive therapy; patients with a history of ischemic heart disease; known allergy to any of the medications used.
How the Study Was Run
Design: randomized, parallel-group and single-blind.
Random assignment meant chance, not the researchers, decided who got Semaglutide and who got the comparison, which limits bias.
Groups ran in parallel: each of the participants stayed in one arm throughout.
Only one side, usually the participants, was kept unaware of whether Semaglutide was given.
Those kept unaware of assignments: outcomes assessor.
It started in 2025-12-30 with completion listed for 2027-01.
It ran at 1 site in Mexico.
Its stated primary purpose is treatment.
What Was Measured
Primary outcome: Epicardial fat (time frame: 12 months).
It also tracked 4 secondary outcomes, for example Change in LDL, Change in fasting glucose and HbA1c, Major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and Change in body weight.
What This Means in Plain Language
Put simply, this is a phase 3, randomized trial of Semaglutide in 136 people.
It is still recruiting; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound
Semaglutide: The active ingredient in several prescription GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines (Ozempic, Wegovy, oral tablets).
