What This Study Did, in Plain Language

What Was Tested

In this phase 1, phase 2 trial, researchers set out to test Glucagon.

Participants will complete paired, 5-hour hyperinsulinemic glucose clamp visits in which they receive either glucagon or saline infusions while blood glucose is maintained and frequent blood samples are collected.

It had two arms (groups): Glucagon infusion during hyperinsulinemic clamp (experimental) and Saline infusion during hyperinsulinemic clamp (placebo comparator).

Saline infusion during the final 90 minutes of an otherwise identical clamp procedure.

The registry classes the interventions as drug.

More on the Plan

Volunteers will undergo screening for medical history, medication usage, and blood work; those who qualify will be offered participation.

Study participation will last approximately 5-12 weeks depending on appointment availability and the number of infusions planned.

This protocol involves two sets of paired procedures.

Approximately 15 participants will complete each set of paired visits.

Who Took Part

40 planned participants were the target.

It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years up to 45 years.

Healthy volunteers could join, not only people with the condition.

Examples of who could join: Healthy adults age 18-45 years. Body Mass Index (BMI) \< 27.0 kg/m².

The full record lists 3 inclusion and 8 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: active medical disease: e.g. active infectious, inflammatory, neurodegenerative or mental health disorders; no personal history of cardiac, gastrointestinal, renal or liver disease; pregnant females.

How the Study Was Run

Design: randomized, crossover and single-blind.

Because people in this Glucagon study were split into groups at random, differences between the groups are less likely to reflect who happened to join each one.

Each person switched between Glucagon and the comparison at some point, usually with a gap in between.

Only one side, usually the participants, was kept unaware of whether Glucagon was given.

Those kept unaware of assignments: participant.

It started in 2026-10 with completion listed for 2029-12.

It ran at 1 site in United States.

Its stated primary purpose is basic science.

What Was Measured

Researchers chose this as the main measure: Glucose appearance (Ra). Glucose disappearance (Rd). Hepatic insulin sensitivity.

What This Means in Plain Language

Put simply, this is a phase 1, phase 2, randomized trial of Glucagon in 40 people.

Its status is not yet recruiting; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound

Glucagon: A 29-amino-acid pancreatic hormone that raises blood glucose; used as a rescue medicine for severe low blood sugar and as a diagnostic aid.
