What This Study Did, in Plain Language

What Was Tested

In this not phased trial, researchers set out to test Tirzepatide.

It will also evaluate the effects of tirzepatide on body weight, metabolic risk factors, and clinical outcomes, as well as its safety and tolerability in this population.

The main questions it aims to answer are: 1.

It had two arms (groups): Standard Care(Intervention: Other - standard care / no tirzepatide) (active comparator) and Tirzepatide + Standard Care(Intervention: Drug - tirzepatide) (active comparator).

The registry classes the interventions as drug and other.

More on the Plan

Obesity and metabolic dysfunction are major upstream drivers of AF, promoting atrial structural and electrical remodeling through hemodynamic load, epicardial fat accumulation, systemic inflammation, and neurohormonal activation.

Participants are randomized 1:1 to receive peri-procedural tirzepatide in addition to standard care or standard care alone.

AF burden at 3 months is assessed by 7-day single-lead ECG patches and adjudicated by a blinded endpoint assessment committee.

Secondary assessments include AF recurrence, echocardiographic measures of left atrial structure, metabolic parameters, quality of life using the AFEQT questionnaire, and cardiovascular events through 12 months of follow-up.

Who Took Part

Enrollment: 200 planned participants were the target.

It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years up to 80 years.

Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.

Examples of who could join: Age between 18 and 80 years. Body mass index (BMI) ≥27 kg/m² at screening accompanied by at least one weight-related comorbidity (including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, dyslipidemia, or prediabetes). Able and willing to provide written informed consent.

The full record lists 4 inclusion and 12 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: long-standing af or marked left atrial enlargement (persistent af duration \> 5 years or left atrial anterior-posterior diameter \> 50 mm); AF secondary to reversible causes (e.g., hyperthyroidism, acute infection, acute pulmonary embolism, recent cardiac surgery); planned major non-af-related surgery or interventional procedure within 3 months.

How the Study Was Run

Design: randomized, parallel-group and open-label.

The participants were allocated by chance, so the Tirzepatide group and the comparison group should start out alike.

Groups ran in parallel: each of the participants stayed in one arm throughout.

Nothing was hidden in this open-label Tirzepatide study: the participants and staff both knew the treatment.

It started in 2026-06-16 with completion listed for 2027-12-31.

It ran at 1 site in Taiwan.

Its stated primary purpose is treatment.

What Was Measured

Researchers chose this as the main measure: Atrial fibrillation burden at 3 months after catheter ablation (time frame: 3 months after catheter ablation (7-day ECG patch monitoring period)).

It also tracked 5 secondary outcomes, for example Atrial fibrillation recurrence within 3 months after catheter ablation, Change in left atrial structure by echocardiography at 3 months, Change in atrial fibrillation-related quality of life questionnaire and Atrial fibrillation recurrence within 12 months after catheter ablation.

What This Means in Plain Language

Put simply, this is a not phased, randomized trial of Tirzepatide in 200 people.

Its status is not yet recruiting; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound

Tirzepatide: A prescription peptide medicine that acts on both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors; Mounjaro and Zepbound contain the same active ingredient.
