What This Study Did, in Plain Language
What Was Tested
In this early phase 1 trial, researchers set out to test Insulin (regular human).
The present study will be performed on fourty-five patients suffering from periodontitis according to the criteria of American academy of periodontology to evaluate clinically effect of topical application of insulin versus hyaluronic acid as an adjunct to non surgical periodontal therapy in stage Ⅲ periodontitis patients.
This will be done by: 1.
It had three arms (groups): scaling and root planning and topical insulin for stage Ⅲ periodontitis patients (active comparator), scaling and root planning with topical application of hyaluronic acid gel (experimental) and Stage III periodontitis patients (active comparator).
Participants receive scaling and root planing followed by topical application of insulin gel into periodontal pockets.
Participants receive scaling and root planing followed by topical application of hyaluronic acid gel into periodontal pockets.
Patients have stage III periodontitis.
The registry classes the interventions as drug and procedure.
More on the Plan
The design of this clinical trial will be randomized double blind technique; the randomization of the patients will be performed through a computer program.
The randomization of patients will form the following 3 groups: Group (Ⅰ): control group including (15) stage Ⅲ periodontitis patients who will receive scaling and root planning (SRP) alone.
Group (Ⅱ): including (15) stage Ⅲ periodontitis patients who will receive topical application of insulin adjunct to SRP.
Group (Ⅲ): including (15) stage Ⅲ periodontitis patients who will receive topical application of hyaluronic acid adjunct to SRP.
Who Took Part
Enrollment: 45 planned participants were the target.
It was open to people of any sex.
Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.
Examples of who could join: All selected patients are free from systemic illness as evaluated according to dental modification of the Cornell medical index. Should be diagnosed as having periodontitis. Not received any type of periodontal treatment in the past 6 months prior to examination. Should be cooperative, motivated, and willing to follow their treatment protocol and follow up visits. Not received antibiotics or anti-inflammatory therapy in the 6 months prior to examination.
The full record lists 5 inclusion and 4 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: antibiotic therapy in the preceding 6 months or during study participation; history of insulin dependent diabetes and thyroid disease; pregnancy, smoking, chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus or rheumatoid arthritis, and allergy to ingredients in the drug.
How the Study Was Run
The set-up was randomized, parallel-group and open-label.
Random assignment meant chance, not the researchers, decided who got Insulin (regular human) and who got the comparison, which limits bias.
The Insulin (regular human) group and the comparison group ran side by side rather than switching.
Being open-label, the Insulin (regular human) study did not mask who received what.
It started in 2026-07-24 with completion listed for 2026-07-25.
It ran at 2 sites in Egypt (2).
Its stated primary purpose is treatment.
What Was Measured
Researchers chose this as the main measure: Periodontal pocket depth (PPD) (time frame: 3-6 months). Clinical attachment loss (CAL) (time frame: 3-6 months).
It also tracked 3 secondary outcomes, for example Change in gingival index (GI), Change in bleeding on probing index (BOP) and Change in levels of IL-1β in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of treated pocket.
What This Means in Plain Language
Put simply, this is a early phase 1, randomized trial of Insulin (regular human) in 45 people.
It is still recruiting; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound
Insulin (regular human): The 51-amino-acid pancreatic hormone that lowers blood glucose; this page covers regular (short-acting) insulin studied in human trials.
