What This Study Did, in Plain Language

What Was Tested

This registered phase 3 trial tested Tirzepatide and Semaglutide.

Titel : Comparative Study of Different Weekly GLP-1 Receptor Agonists Among Diabetic and Non-Diabetic Patients: Clinical Trial Abstract : Background: This study that highlights the different effects of most used three GLP-RA Dulaglutide, Semaglutide, Tirazepetide among diabetic and non -diabetic participant as the well-known fact that they don't have only weight recuing effect but also many different effects on metabolic process including insulin sensitivity, lipid profile and NASH.

Materials and Methods: This is a randomized controlled study involving a total of 159 participants, divided into 75 non-diabetic and 84 diabetic obese individuals.

It had six arms (groups): obese , non diabetic ,recieve dulaglutide (active comparator), obese , non diabetic ,receive SEMAGLUTIDE (active comparator), obese , non diabetic ,receive TIRAZEPETIDE (active comparator), obese , diabetic ,recieve dulaglutide (active comparator) and obese , diabetic ,receive SEMAGLUTIDE (active comparator).

The registry classes the interventions as drug.

More on the Plan

Methods Study and population: This was a randomized controlled clinical trial study conducted at Al-Zafer hospital Najran KSA October 2025.

The study received approval from the Institutional Ethics Committee (king Khaled hospital) Najran health cluster KSA on 27 October 2024.

IRB registration number with KACST, KSA: H-11-N-136.

Definition of overweight and obesity in adults using Body mass index (BMI): BMI ≥ 25 kg/m² (overweight) and BMI ≥ 30 kg/m² (obesity).

Who Took Part

Enrollment: 159 actual participants took part.

It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years up to 65 years.

Healthy volunteers could join, not only people with the condition.

Examples of who could join: Overweight or obese, diabetic, or non-diabetic.

The full record lists 1 inclusion and 1 exclusion criteria; among the exclusions: patients who will refuse to be enrolled in the study or refuse to sign the consent.

How the Study Was Run

It was run as a randomized, parallel-group and open-label study.

Because people in this Tirzepatide study were split into groups at random, differences between the groups are less likely to reflect who happened to join each one.

Groups ran in parallel: each of the participants stayed in one arm throughout.

Everyone knew when Tirzepatide was being given (open label), which is simpler to run but leaves more room for expectations to affect what is reported.

It started in 2025-10-18 with completion listed for 2026-03-17.

It ran at 1 site in Saudi Arabia.

Its stated primary purpose is treatment.

What Was Measured

Researchers chose this as the main measure: change in body weight at 3 and 6 months (time frame: 6-MONTH STUDY PERIOD).

It also tracked 8 secondary outcomes, for example Change in Body Mass Index (BMI), Change in Glycated Hemoglobin (HbA1c), Change in Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C), Change in Triglycerides, Change in Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) and Change in Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST).

What This Means in Plain Language

Put simply, this is a phase 3, randomized trial of Tirzepatide and Semaglutide in 159 people.

The trial is marked completed; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

More context: the Tirzepatide compound page and the Semaglutide compound page, all human trials.

Our Notes on the Compounds

Tirzepatide: A prescription peptide medicine that acts on both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors; Mounjaro and Zepbound contain the same active ingredient.

Semaglutide: The active ingredient in several prescription GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines (Ozempic, Wegovy, oral tablets).

Dulaglutide: A once-weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist (two GLP-1 analog chains joined to an antibody Fc fragment), sold as Trulicity.
