What This Study Did, in Plain Language
What Was Tested
The trial (not phased) is built around Desmopressin.
Patients undergoing kidney biopsy were enrolled sequentially into two groups: a non-desmopressin group and a desmopressin group.
It had two arms (groups): Non-Desmopressin Group (active comparator) and Desmopressin Group (experimental).
Patients undergoing native kidney biopsy who did not receive prophylactic desmopressin. Patients were monitored for 24 hours after biopsy for bleeding complications and other safety outcomes.
Patients undergoing native kidney biopsy who received prophylactic intranasal desmopressin before the biopsy. Patients were monitored for 24 hours after biopsy for bleeding complications and other safety outcomes.
The registry classes the interventions as drug and other.
More on the Plan
This prospective sequential cohort study evaluated the association between prophylactic intranasal desmopressin use and bleeding complications following native kidney biopsy in adults with severe renal impairment.
Patients were sequentially enrolled into a non-desmopressin cohort from October 2024 to March 2025 and a desmopressin cohort from April 2025 to September 2025.
All patients underwent ultrasound-guided kidney biopsy and were monitored clinically and by ultrasonography for 24 hours after the procedure.
The study evaluated post-biopsy bleeding complications and safety outcomes, including perinephric hematoma, hemoglobin decline, gross hematuria, blood transfusion, invasive interventions, and changes in serum sodium.
Who Took Part
Enrollment: 250 actual participants took part.
It was open to people of any sex aged from 18 years up to 90 years.
Healthy volunteers were not accepted; participants needed the condition being studied.
How the Study Was Run
The set-up was non-randomized, parallel-group and open-label.
The Desmopressin group and the comparison group ran side by side rather than switching.
Being open-label, the Desmopressin study did not mask who received what.
It started in 2017-08-01 with completion listed for 2017-11-30.
It ran at 1 site in Pakistan.
Its stated primary purpose is prevention.
What Was Measured
Primary outcome: Overall bleeding complications after native kidney biopsy (time frame: Within 24 hours after kidney biopsy).
What This Means in Plain Language
Put simply, this is a not phased, non-randomized trial of Desmopressin in 250 people.
The trial is marked completed; no results are posted to the registry yet, so nothing here describes outcomes.

Our Notes on the Compound
Desmopressin: A synthetic vasopressin analog (DDAVP) used for bedwetting, diabetes insipidus and some bleeding disorders.
