What This Study Did, in Plain Language
What Was Tested
This randomized controlled trial looks at Chorionic Gonadotropin.
Thirty women undergoing in-vitro fertilization or intracytoplasmic sperm injection considered to be at high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) were randomly allocated to have early unilateral follicular aspiration (EUFA) (group 1) or coasting (group 2) when the serum oestradiol concentration was >6000 pg/ml and there were more than 15 follicles each of >/=18 mm diameter in each ovary.
EUFA was performed in group 1 at 10-12 h after the human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) trigger injection and human menopausal gonadotrophin (HMG) were withheld for 4.9 +/- 1.6 days until serum oestradiol concentrations fell below 3000 pg/ml when HCG was administered.
Who Took Part
By PubMed's age tags, the people studied were adults, women only.
How the Study Was Run
In design terms this was a randomized study.
The participants were allocated by chance, so the Chorionic Gonadotropin group and the comparison group should start out alike.
What Was Measured
PubMed files the paper under topics including Chorionic Gonadotropin, Embryo Transfer, Estradiol, Fertilization in Vitro, Menotropins, Ovarian Follicle and Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome.
What This Means in Plain Language
The paper is a randomized study of Chorionic Gonadotropin.
The publication is from 1999 (Human reproduction (Oxford, England)), a journal based in England.
