What it is

A modified fragment of growth hormone that acts through a different pathway than GH. It doesn't carry GH's insulin or growth effects.

Additional points (as described)

  • The last 15 amino acids of GH without the growth portion. It acts on fat-cell β3 receptors without affecting glucose or insulin, but it's weak for fat loss compared with tesamorelin.
  • Its main use is cartilage: chondrocyte growth, type II collagen and aggrecan. Oral high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid (and quality stem cells) is described alongside it before considering joint replacement.
  • Joint signaling depends on loading (Wolff's law), so bad mechanics undermine cartilage.
