What it is

Pemvidutide is described as Altimmune's balanced 1:1 GLP-1 and glucagon receptor agonist, designed with EuPort technology for slower absorption. (An unrelated cancer drug also used the code ALT-801.)

Its main program is in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).

Mechanism (as described)

  • GLP-1 activity reduces appetite; glucagon activity is described as increasing energy use and liver fat breakdown.

Evidence (as described)

  • A 12-week randomized trial reported large reductions in liver fat in MASLD (Harrison et al., J Hepatol 2025).
  • The phase 2b IMPACT trial in MASH reported 24-week results in The Lancet (Noureddin et al., 2025).
