What it is
A 4-amino-acid pineal-derived peptide, one of the core longevity peptides.
Mechanism (as described)
- Activates telomerase and lengthens telomeres. Preserves stem-cell replication capacity and lowers senescent-cell burden.
- Restores hypothalamic sensitivity (leptin) and pineal/HPA rhythms, supporting sleep.
- Activates AMPK.
- Supports retinal pigment epithelium (AMD, retinal dystrophy).
Additional points (as described)
- Mechanisms listed: switches on telomerase (TERT), preserves stem-cell pools, lowers senescent-cell inflammation, normalizes age-drifted DNA methylation, reduces pineal calcification, steadies cortisol rhythm, and raises interferon and NK-cell activity.
- Misuse warning: it's run in courses, not taken twice daily as a "forever" peptide.
FDA Compounding Panel (July 2026)
At its July 23-24, 2026 meeting, the FDA Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee recommended adding Epitalon (free base and acetate) to the Section 503A bulks list, for the uses FDA reviewed (insomnia). FDA's own briefing documents had proposed not adding it.
- The vote is advisory and non-binding. It is not FDA approval, and it does not by itself allow pharmacies to compound Epitalon. FDA would have to finish rulemaking to change the final list (21 CFR 216.23), which included no peptides as of October 2026.
- Reported tally (yes-no-abstain): 7-4-1, as reported in law-firm meeting reports. FDA had not posted official minutes or vote results when checked on October 19, 2026.
