What it is
Thymopentin is described as the active pentapeptide of thymopoietin. It has been used in some countries for immune deficiency and was trialed in rheumatoid arthritis and atopic dermatitis.
Mechanism (as described)
- It is described as promoting T-cell differentiation and balancing immune responses (Singh et al., 1998).
Evidence (as described)
- A controlled trial reported reduced severity of atopic dermatitis (Leung et al., 1990); rheumatoid arthritis results were mixed (Sundal et al., 1994).
Status
Approved historically in some countries (e.g., Italy, China); not in the US.
